The Boatshed is one of Wellington's premium function venues. With its spectacular
and intimate views of the inner harbour it has become a city icon.
The Boatshed is a heritage landmark feature and a focal point of Wellington's
Waterfront Development. It combines the charm and character of yesteryear
with a full range of modern conveniences and is surrounded by the panorama
of Wellington City by day and lights by night with balconies overlooking the
lagoon and sea.
Available for hire for all types of functions including seminars, conferences,
and product launches, The Boatshed has been the perfect venue for as few as
25 people as well as larger numbers up to its legal maximum capacity of 300.
Owned by the Star Boating Club Inc., The Boatshed is on the first floor with disability access.
The Star Boating Club is understood to be the oldest surviving sports club in the North
Island. The Boatshed/Star Boating Club building on the Wellington waterfront has been
home to the Club since 1886 and it was registered as a Category 1 historic place by
Historic Places Trust in June 2009.
The Boatshed has a large wooden floor main room, a commercial catering kitchen,
a carpeted bar area and servery, modern bathroom and toilet facilities, secure
storage, full central heating and offers ample car parking in close proximity
through various parking facilities. It is possible to erect a marquee on the
main deck as an additional feature. Round tables, chairs, and trestles are
available at very competitive rates.
As the Star Boating Club's main source of revenue, The Boatshed venue is made
available to the widest possible community. In promotion of greatest public
accessibility, The Boatshed is not aligned with any one caterer or alcohol
outlet, enabling hirers of the venue to appoint caterers of their personal
preference and also to have wholesale alcohol delivered on a sale and return
basis. There is no evening cut off time at The Boatshed and there are no applicable
noise restrictions. The premises are commercially cleaned as part of the package.
The Boatshed takes care of rubbish and provides a recycling facility for empty
bottlers, cans and broken glass.
